On mature trees, pruning is required to remove dead and dying branches to maintain health and safety. This pruning type is referred to as Deadwooding or Cleaning. The removal of live branches to reduce density, known as Thinning, has been proven to significantly reduce wind resistance and subsequent storm damage. Thinning should only be done on trees where the crown is "too dense", and our arborists have the training and experience to evaluate this attribute. Thinning should be concentrated on the outer portions of the canopy, leaving as many branches on the interior crown as possible. In some instances, the crown or individual branches require reduction in length to improve the form and shape of the plant, to eliminate interference with objects and structures, and to compensate for structural weaknesses. Lower branches may require pruning for similar reasons. This process, known as Raising, also can be used to increase the amount of light for turf grass and ground covers beneath the crown of a tree. Our arborists are trained to evaluate the condition of your trees and determine the type(s) of pruning required to balance your goals and those of managing plant health and safety.
Tree removal is a very necessary part of arboriculture and one that Tree Artisans executes professionally and safely. Our goal is, and has always been, to provide services that keep trees healthy, but there are instances when removal is the best alternative for the landscape and homeowner.
Tree removals are performed to eliminate dead and dying trees as well as those that have become hazardous. Removals can also be useful in eliminating competition for light and space so that the remaining plants are better able to grow and thrive. In some cases, trees may also be removed to allow for new construction, home additions and to provide clearances with those structures.
Tree removal is the most hazardous aspect of arboriculture. Often, arborists must remove trees growing in confined spaces near houses, utility lines and other sensitive areas. A considerable amount knowledge, training, and experience are needed to successfully perform this task. Our arborists are highly trained to work safely and efficiently in all tree removals. We provide thorough clean up of debris and strive to minimize the impact to surrounding vegetation.
As part of the tree removal process, the stump will typically be left as close to the ground as possible. If needed, removal of the stump can be provided.
Wildfire mitigation is extremely important in El Paso County. With the loss of homes, property, and beautiful trees due to the Waldo Canyon and Black Forest fires, it is now becoming mandatory for homeowners to meet certain guidelines in order to stay insured.
Defensible Space is a term you may hear quite frequently, andtypically refers to a 30 foot radius from your home, in which all trees and woody plants have been cleared. In addition, it is important that your property has been cleared of "Ladder Fuels" to a 100 foot radius, when possible. Ladder fuels are tree branches and tall shrubs that help a fire climb into the canopy of trees, where it spreads much faster and is much more difficult to contain.
Tree Artisans understands that not all properties are the same, and as such, require differing levels of mitigation. In some cases, a defensible space of 15 feet is adequate, along with clearing Ladder Fuels to your property line. Whatever the case, we will work with you, and your insurance company's requests, in order to mitigate your property effectively, without harm to your home's aesthetics and privacy.
In most cases, unless specifically provided for, Stump Removal or Grinding is not included in the process of Tree Removal. In fact, it is a service that many tree companies do not even provide! Tree Artisans is equipped and trained to provide this service, and is happy to help if you have stumps, big or small, that need to be removed.
Something to keep in mind, when having a stump removed, is that additional charges may apply for circumstances including: chasing roots, grinding deeper than 6” under soil line, stumps taller than 6” above soil line, debris such as rocks or metal, and traveling outside of El Paso County. All charges will be included in the estimate for your full approval.
In the event a large area needs to be cleared for new construction, remodeling, landscaping, removal of burned trees, etc. Tree Artisans offers land and lot clearing services. It would be our pleasure to assist you, whether you have a quarter acre lot in the city, or 10 acres of land in Black Forest or Monument. Please call us for details!
